MESSRS BURTON RROS ' NEW ESTABLISHMENT. Messri Burton Bros , having taken a leas" of the buildings at the corner of Geoige stieet and Moray place for 21 ycais, decidid to make tho two shops into oiip large shop, with a floor spac o ot 44ft ?v 40ft. The whole of the old hunts has been completely removed, together with a part of the Moray place frontage, and up-to-dato fronts, made of oak, take their place, thcie being close on 900 square feet of plate-glass used. A lumd'-orne central doorway, 10ft wide, has boon put in from Grorgc street, with deep recessed windows. The growing tendency is to have a largo show of goods. All the windows aro closed in with glass at tho back, tho lower portion being glazed with mirror plate. Part °f th° hark brick walls has been taken out and filled in with prismatic gla<-<s, which gives capital light to any part of tho shop from back to front. The inside of tho shop ha= been fitted up with new shelving, counters, show stands, and glass cases, for the storage and display of tho large v arctics of ironmongery and ciockerywarc, particularly for household purposes For the comfort of tho staff and patrons the shop is well hoaWl with hotwater radiatoi« This woik has been carried oat by Messrs A. and T. Buit, who also d-d the plumbing woik Pait of tho upper stoioy is retained by Messrs Burton Bros. as an extra show and storage room, which has been nicely fitted up. The other part of tho upper storey remains as it was. There is an easy entrance from Moray place. \ hanging verandah has been erected all round tho George and Moray place frontages, giving tho building a fine appearance. The whole building has been fitted up with electric light Besides lamps in tho windows there arc six 800 candlepower arc lamps suspended under the verandah roof, which, when lighted up, W'll make this corner one of tho most attractive in thp city. Mc-srs Turnbull and Jones were entrusted with thi= woik. Messrs Burnoy and Co., of Moray place, who made all tho gbss shelving and silvered the mirror plate, have dono their vork in a most credit ib'e manner. The shop fronts were made and fitted in bv Mo*=rs M'Lachlan and Wright. _ Mcf«i? C. and W ITavward laid tho linoleums and supplied the iron '-tandaids and brackets for tho window fittings The whole of the work was entrusted to Mr Or Campbell, builder, who has carried out his task in an expeditious and most complete manner, under tho supervision of Mr J.
