ONE-THIRD AREA LESS SOUTH CANTERBURY FARMERS. (Peh United Pbess Association.) TIMARU, August 6. At tho meeting of the Formers' Union Mr John Talbot (president) reported on tho interview of delegates from tho wheatgrowing districts with tho Prime Minister .seme days ago with the request for protoctivo tariff, proceeding to emphasise tho argumcnte put before Air Massey. Mr Talbot was sure that the area of spring wheat would bo restricted by at least onethird. They could not under the present conditions expect wheat to bo profitable, whether thero was a surplus or a shortage next harvest. A surplus could not be got away, arid Australia would make up tho shortage. Other _ members endorsed tho statement that spring wheat will not bo largely sown.
