Ihe deceased was born in Lawience. and educated at the local D'stiiet Iligh School (where he had a fine =ciiolast'c record) lie entered the public sor\ice as a cadet in the Lawience Magistrate's Couit, under the late Mr A. M. Eves. After spending several years in th it office, ho was transferred to Christchureh, and subsequently to Wellington, where he enb-ted. and left with the 11th Reinforcement-. He was a particularly fine tvo'e of young man. and during the last few- -scars of hi'- residence in Liwrence took an active part m the social life of the community, being connected with the football, tennis and golf flubs.
