Y.M.C.A.'S APPEAL
HELPING OUR BOYS. „ The street collection to be taken up tomorrow to provide funds for the extension of the work of the Young Men's Christian Association in Egypt and elsewhere has received the enthusiastio support of practically all the women's organisations in the community. The women's organisations have rendered such excellent service in all .patriotic movements which have been launched in Dunedin that there is little doubt about their part in this endeavour. It only remains for a sympathetic public to loyally support their gratuitous service with ( a record collection. The organisations assisting are:—The Otago Women's Patriotic Association, the Women's National Reserve, the Red Cross Society, the Otagx) Women's Club, the Overseas Club, the Bt. John Ambulance Association, Central, Caversham, and Green Island Nursing Divisions, the Young Women's Christian Association, the Y.M.C.A. Women's Auxiliary Committee, the Victoria League, and the St. Vincent de Paul ■Society. The Women's Christian Temperance Unions are planning a dominion effort to provide' £3000 for the same object, but their scheme is of a continuous character, and will not finish until June next. The staff of the National Bank has kindly undertaken to count the collection. The Arthur Street and Albany Street School Bands will parade in the afternoon, and~ will render selections at various points on the main thoroughfare. Given good weather, conditions, to-morrow's effort should be ' fruitful, and a large sum should 'be raised.
AN UNSOLICITED TESTIMONY. The general secretary of the Y.M.C.A., Dunedin, has received the following letter from the Soldiers' Convalescent Home, Waikouaiti:—"The inmates of the Waikouaiti Convalescent Home desire to place on record their appreciation of the work of the Y.M.C.A. amongst the troops in Egypt. We noticed your appeal for money in the paper on Saturday morning, and we wish you every success in your endeavour to 'obtain more to.enable you to carry on the splendid work your association is doing , for the soldiers. The following little incident illustrates to what practical use the money you receive is put: Some 1900 Scottish troops were expected in Alexandria, from Cairo, and, as they were moving on next day, no camp was prepared. The Y.M.C.A. peoplo were approached, and they willingly worked all night preparing a good meal for the men, and then waited on them when they arrived. Thousands of men who were not partial to the Y.M.C.A. prior to the war now appreciate all that the association is doing for them when they are in foreign lands. Wishing you every sue-' , cess.—We. are, eto., Sergeant L. Harrison Jonea, Private H. Woolford, Farrier J Gallagher, Sergeant R. J. Forbes, C. h! Watson D. M'D. Church, T. D. Valentine, A. B. Gibb." *
