KAITANGATA NOTES.
(FEOM OUB OWH CORBESPONDENT.I ; KAITANGATA, April 10. The Kaitangata dredge for the drainage of tho lake areas :s now nearly ready for work, and very soon should make a difference in tlie width and depth of the old canal Mrs ,J. W. Loekhart has been appointed librarian at the Athenseum, in succession to Mr J. Bennie. As a result of the proposal that £100 be voted to the Broken Hill Strikers' Relief Fund out of the funds of the local Miners' Union, the executive members have tendered their resignations. A new executive was elected last evening as follows:—Messrs R. Penman, W, Brad word, and J. Fenton, president, secretary, and treasurer respectively ; committee—Messrs W. Proctor, J. Dahren, J. Ramsden, W. Cairns.. A meeting of the' local Poultry Glub was held on Wednesday, Mr J. Pryde (vicepresident) being in Uie chair. The resignation of Mr W. :R. Mechaelis as president was received and accepted with regret, and it was decided to place on record in the minutes his valuable work on behalf of the club. Mr F: J. W. Tosswill was elected president, and Messrs R. Welsh, J. Fenton, and W. Clarkson were elected members on the committee. During- the evening, on behalf of the club, Mr Tosswill, in a happy speech, presented ,Mr' Mechaelis- with an inscribed walking-stick,.'expressing regret at his departure and appreciation of his good work during his term of office as president. The speaker wished the recipient and his wife good luck, and prosperity in their new home at Cromwell. Mr Mechaelis feelingly 'returned' thanks.
