- FRENCH RED CROSS. TIMARU'S CONTRIBUTION. (Pee United Pbess Association.) TIMARU, April 8. • The Timaru sub-centre of the Red Cross Society ha 6 forwarded to Auckland a donation of £1477 4s 7d, the result of /South Canterbury's effort for the French Red i-oss. This includes Waimate siub-centre's contribution of ±.253 4s lid.

WAIT ATI WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION. _ The Waitati Women's Patriotic Association resumed operations in February. About 50 people' in the district are regularly giving a shilling a month to a work fund, used for purchasing wool and material to be matio up. On March 10 a social was held, £12 being raised; £5 of this was donated to the Belgian and Serbian Relief Funds, and the balance used in procuring . material to make up for the Belgians. A number of the women meet regularly on Thursday afternoon to sew. Parcels containing socks, handkerchiefs, and chocolate have been made up and forwarded to the Waitati boys at the front. Since the beginning of the year the following articles have been forwarded to the Early Settlers' Hall:—33 pairs socks, 6 balaclavas, 38 service bags, 24 handkerchiefs, 1 muffler, 1 pair cuffs, 15 button bags, and a sack of clothing for tho Belgians has also been gathered and sent in'. The pupils of the school are also busy, having made and sent in 44 soap bags, 29 button bags, 10 service bags, 13 face cloths, 5 operation cloths, and 1 hospital handkerchief,

OTAGO WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION. Empty tins (cocoa, pepper, mustard, eto.) will .be gratefully received at the Early Settlers' Hall. Dried apricots, almonds, raisins, and sweets ' will be purchased in bulk and packed in these small tins for the dominion gift parcels, the first consignment of which wilr be despatched early in May. Contributions of money and goods for these parcels will be very gratefully received. Each parcel will contain pne pair of socks and Is 6d worth of articles, such as cocoa, sweets, curry powder, condensed milk —in fact, anything which will vary the food of the soldier who is fighting in the trenches. All the women of New Zealand are combining to, send these parcels monthly, and they are for general distribution amongst the New Zealand soldiers. This month tho women of Otago and Southland despatched 9150 21b tins of home-made jam, and next month they hope to despatch other 2000 tins of jam and 2000 dominion gift parcels. Lots, of brown paper and' string will be required for wrapping, and any quantity, however small, of either of these things will also be accepted gladly. Mrs John Roberts very kindly donated a case of condensed milk for these parcels, and two members of the Overseas Club one dozen pairs of socks. Next Friday the workers of tho association will assist the Public Appeal Committee with the collection for the Y.M.C.A. work amongst the soldiers in Egypt. Some members of the committee have not yet sent in names of helpers, and the _hon. secretary would be glad to have this information as soon as possible. Numbers of our returned soldiers tell of the great work tho Y.M.C.A. is doing for the soldiers in Egypt, and it is hoped all the women workers will turn out on Friday and work hard to make this* record collection.
