Cable advice was received on Monday from " somewhere" that Lieutenant J. B. Bennett, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. B. Bennett, of Palmerston North, had received his captaincy (says tho Manawatu Times). Captain Bennett saw service with tho forco which occupied Samoa, and on returning was attached to tho second Battalion of the Rifle Brigade as second lieutenant. Before tho force left for the front ho was promoted to first lieutenant.
