In the first grade matches at Christchurch last Saturday Riccarton 269 (H; B. Whitta 131 not out, E. T. Taylor 32, E. R. ■ Cay gill 21) defeated Sydenham 187 and 44 for five wickets. Linwood 178 and 141 for six wickets (R. Read 72, G. Tate 28) defeated West Christchurch 97 (H. B. Lusk 43) and 120 for two wickets (D. Reese not out 58, P. S. Foster not out 38). East Christohurch 179 (E. Brosnahan 57, J„ H. Criohton' 42, E. Willsteed 34) obtained a win on the first innings over St. Albans 124 and 275 (J. 8. Barrett 53, Lawrence 48, L. Gordon 47, T. Reese 37, L. Johns 26). Linwood and Riccarton will play off for the championship. _ " Two runs short," both at on© end, were signalled at Carisbrook on Saturday last in a hit for ; three.
