WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.

The committee of the Otago Women's Patriotic Association desires to thank all those who helped to make the garden fete on Saturday such a great success. It is impossible to thank everyone individually lor their assistance, but special mention might be made of the cheque for £5 received from the employees of Brown, Ewing, and Co. Mr Salomon also desires to thank the public who attended for their consideration in taking such oare of the garden, which looks none the worse for the visit of so many hundreds of people. Mr J. P. Northey has consented to deliver a lecture on Wednesday evening in the Bums Hall. It is entitled "Physical Culture: A Popular Illustrated Lecture," with 150 slides. All funds derived from this lecture are to be given to the association, and it is hoped there will be a crowded house. Cakes will be gratefully received to-day for the farewell to the Eleventh Reinforcements in the evening. All those invited are requested to present their tickets at the door. Returned soldiers in uniform will be welcomed. Patriotic Fund.—Mornington Women s Patriotic Association, sa. PATRIOTIC DEMONSTRATION. AT PORT CHALMERS. Residents of Port Chalmers will have the opportunity of hearing some stirring patriotic addresses this evening, when Messrs L. M. Isitt, M.P., and O. T. J. Alpers will conduct one of their rousing and popular meetings. These gentlemen have been receiving very welcome receptions since their arrival in Otago. A concert party _ from Dunedin will provide appropriate musical items. In the event of wet weather the demonstration will be held in the Town Hall instead of at the band rotunda. WOUNDED SOLDIERS' FUND BOWLING TOURNAMENT AT BALI MAOEWEN. The Balmacewen Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club held a "patriotic" afternoon on Saturday, and the effort proved a thorough success, the sum of £10 7s being obtained for the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. The bowling green was fully occupied during the afternoon, and some close finishes were recorded. The tennis and croquet areas were also well filled with players, and a large number of the club's friends attended to help to swell the funds. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies, and this was greatly appreciated. The Maori Hill School Band was in attendance, and towards the close of the proceedings the president (Mr P. L. Ritchie) called for three cheers in recognition of its services, these being heartily given. The Balmacewen Club js to be recommended upon having inaugurated these happy functions,, and doubtless other clubs will follow its example on behalf of a good cause. N.E. VALLEY WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION. The weekly sewing meeting was well ittended on Thursday afternoon and evening. The following work was brought in for the week: —Two dozen pair socks, 18 balaclava caps, 6£ dozen towels, 14 housewives, 2 dozen service bags, and 4 dozen handkerchiefs. A large parcel of clothing was packed for the British poor. The committee gratefully acknowledges contributions from the following:—Money: Mrs Begg and "A Friend." Socks: Mrs Mowat. Clothing: Miss Inglis, Mrs Ritchie, »Ars Faneourt, Mrs Burrows. Belgian Relief Fund.—For the month of November the local treasurer (Mrs Blackman) reports donations to the amount of £70 lis 6d. As the jam making season is now on,' and knowing our soldiers' keen appreciation of home-made jams, the executive has arranged (through the Central Association) for a supply of approved suitable jam tins to be at the institute on Thursday afternoon and evening next, and trusts that a liberal quota of the season's jams will be forthcoming from our district. In view of the appiroaeh of the holiday season the association has decided to suspend its weekly meetings for a period of three weeks after Thursday next, but trusts that members will, if possible, keep some work going during that time. OVERSEAS CLUB. Wednesday will be the last working day of the club for this year; but the ladies' committee will not be idle during the recess. Sufficient work is taken home to keep tho members going during the interval. The work will bo resumed as usual on Wednesday, January 5. Donations may be sent during the recess to the club room, Octagon Tea Rooms, every day during the interval, Mrs Emmanuel and Mr Bloy kindly taking charge of all parcels. Money donations may bo left at or sent to the hon. dominion secretary, _ 79 Castle street, and correspondence relating to the ladies' work may bo addressed to tho acting-secretary of "the ladies' committee. The committee wishes to return thanks to all don.ors who have supplied them with tho wherewithal, and hone that all who ca.n will continue their liberality. The Highlanders' box is still unfilled, and material for soldiers' garments is urgently needed.
