OBITUARY
MR ROBERT BAER SMITH. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright ADELAIDE, November 21. (Received Nov. 21, at 5.5 p.m.) The death has occurred of Mr Robert Barr Smith, the millionaire merchant and philanthropist. Fredi Johns's Annual refers to the late Mr Smith as a wealthy and public-spirited citizen of Adelaide. The deceased, -who 'was a son of the Rev._ Dr Smith, of the Free Church, was born in Scotland' early in 1824, and was consequently approaching his ninety-second year. _ He set-tied in South Australia in 1854, joining the firm of Messrs Elder and Co., afterwards changed to Messrs Elder, Smith, and Co. Ho was also largely interested in pastoral properties, and was identified with many public, patriotic, and philanthropic movements, to which he gave liberally, his munificence including notable gifts to the' State, University, Church, and many institutions.
