REPORT FROM PETROGRAD. PETROGRAD, November 20. (Received Nov. 21, at -4.45 p.m.) A communique states: i The German attempt to cross the Dvina north-west of Friedrichatadt failed. The Germans made a futile attempt to reach the Styr, near the Chartorysk station. We retired near ChaTtorysk to the, right bank under cover of our artillery. HOW FRIENDS FARE. THE GERMAN METHOD. PETROGRAD, November 20. (Received Nov. 21, at 3.30 p.m.) A prisoner brought to Kieff recounts that the Brandenburg Dragoons caught 40 or 50 Austrians wandering in the forest, seeking to surrender. They were taken before the Germa nstaff and sentenced to death. Bound hand and foot, they, were placed feet downward in. a bog until they were slowly engulfed. RUSSIAN SUCCESSES. PETROGRAD, November 21. (Received Nov. 21, at 11 p.m.) A comhiunique states: The Germans were driven back in the region of the Poniveste railway, westward of Dvinsk. The enemy on the left bank of the Styr weTe unable to retain their newly-occupied ground. We have re occupied Ozartorysk and the village of Koslinitchi.
