SUMMER SHOW. The thirty-ninth metropolitan show of the Jt.a<*o A. and P. Society will bo held at t'iihirna Park on Wednesday and Thursday. /cry good entries have been received, and some of the best cattle, sheep, and horses in the dominion will bo/forward. The forenoon of tits nret day will be devoted to tho • judging of the sheep, cattle, and Clydcsd-alo norsre, while in tho afternoon a popular programme of boys' . and girls' pony trots and hunting competitions will be presented to the public. Thursday will bo the popular day of tho show, and a half-holiday will bo observed from noo/i. A large attendance of the public and children from the city and suburban schools is expected. 'No effort has been spared to present an attractive programme, to make- the show a success, and the committee is confident that a, very large attendance' of tho public will result. - • On Thursday morning the draught working horses, harness horses, hacks, cobs, and ponies will be judged. The afternoon will bo devoted to the grand parade of prizo stock, jumping events, bare-back riding, pony trots, and other interesting and exciting evente. A large number of well-known competitors from all parts of the South Island" have entered for the leaping and hunting contests,, so it is anticipated that some splendid competitions will be Been. A comprehensive and varied exhibition of side-shows will be displayed under canvas, and a fair display of machinery and implements will again bo made. Tho total entries yi the sheep and cattle sections aro slightly under those of last year. This is probably duo to the dry season; otherwise had the usual number of ewin© come to hand this would have been the record show of the society. Exhibitors of highclass stock are coming from Christchurch in tho north to Inveroargill in the south, and ; the quality will be quite up to anything previously seen on the show ground. There will bo keen competition in the Border Leicester and Itomney Marsh sheep sections. No doubt the keenest interest will be centred in the horse section®, and tho display of Clydesdale horses should be one of the finesb ;' ever brought together in tho dominion. A special feature in the show will undoubtedly- bo in the steeplechase contests, the total number of entries in which exceed those of any former years, and the best loaning horses in the South Island havo been entered. In the harness and -hackney clarees excellent entries havo been received, and many fine animals will appear m the rinrr. Wool-classing competitions, open to students and ex-students of wool-classing, classes held under the direction of theOt&go Education Board, will be held on both days of the show, from 10a.m. An attractive musical programme: will be provided by the St. Kilda Band, while at intervals the Dunedin Pipe, Band will give selections. !
