Superintendent Wright, who is to take charge of the Dtmedin Polico District, is expected to arrive in Dunedin next week. Mr Jos Thompson, who is leaving Dun- I cdin to bake up his residence in Wellington, was yesterday afternoon presented with a cheque by his employers (Messrs Stone, Son, and Co.), and with a case of pipes and a sum of money by the_ clerical and mechanical staff. The best wishes of both the firm and co-workers for his future success were suitably expressed. Captain William Henry Woebling, who , anchored in his final harbour on Wednesday of this week, was well known throughout Now Zealand and Australia. He had tho reputation of being an able seaman and skilful navigator, and had many exciting adventures during the 4-0 years he sailed theeo Southern Seas. The deceased sailor was in tho employ of Messrs 11. Guthrie and Co. for over 20 years, as a master on the wellknown traders Camille, Ocean Ranger, and 0:?yx, and later had charge of tho barques Auriga and Rona. Then when the (-railing vessel* commenced to disappear Captain Woebling tried his hand on a steamer, but did not take kindly to tho new sea craft, and returned to the sailer, taking command cf tho Rachel Cohen, and running between tho Maccj'iiario Islands and Hobart. Ho held this position at the time of his death. He is survived by a widow and three eons and two daughters. Two of the sons, as officer and engineer respectively, are employed on a transport running between England and France.
