PALMEESTON NOTES.

(Fbom Ouh Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, November 18. A number of enthusiastic fishermen who put in a good deal of their spare time fishing o,t Moeraki Point, met at the lighthouse to make a pretentation to Mr and Mrs Quinn, the lighthouse keepers. Mr Culling, who made the presentation (consisting of a case of pipes and a travelling rug), referred to the kindness received from Mr and Mrs Quinn by all fishermen visiting Moeraki. Heavy rain fell at Palmerston ott Monday night, half an inch falling in a few hours. Slince then the weather has been squally, strong winds being followed by showers. The country can stand a lot more rain, although shearing, which has started in some parts, will be retarded. The. annual meeting of tho Lawn Tennis Club, which was adjourned from last week, was held on Tuesday. The balance sheet showed that the club was nearly financial, and by the end of this season should have a small margin to the good. The retiring president (Mr J. O'Connel) was re-elected unanimously, Dr Barraclough and Mr E. Reid were appointed vice-presidents, and Mrs Grimsdale hon. secretary. The opening day was fixed for Saturday. A very pleasant social was held in the Methodist Church on Monday evening. The vocal items by Misses Lefevre and. Beckingsale and the Rev. Mr Allan were much appreciated. Refreshments were provided by tho ladies, and a most enjoyable evening was ispent. FEAR OF NASTY MEDICINE.
