DUNEDIN DRAINAGE BOARD
The fortnightly meeting of the Dunedin Drainage Board was held last night; present—Messrs Douglas (chairman), Kellett, M'Farlane, Belcher, Wilson, M'Kinnon, and ITarquharson. BEPOBTS, Mr M'Farlane moved, and Mr "Wilson seconded, the adoption of the Works Committee's report. The report was adopted without discussion. Mr Wilson, in the absence of Mr Small, moved the adoption of the Finance Committee's report. Mr M'Farlanc seconded the- motion.—Mr Kellett commented upon the absence of the chairman of the Finance Committee. He understood that eight meetings of the board had been held since the chairman had attended, and he did not know whether ho had been present at meetings of the Finance Committee, It was rumoured that employees of the board who had seen fit , to do their duty at the front would have their pay stopped. Ho thought that in consequence of this it was n pity that the chairman of the Finance Committee was not present. It was deplorable that a member holding the position of chairman of the Finance Committee should neglect his duty for such a length of time. He would have something further to say on the subject at a later stage.—The report was adopted. The Executive Committee's report report recommended that the Works and Finance Committees should report to the board as to what works should bo submitted to a poll of the ratepayers in connection with the board's loan proposals.— The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, said it was necessary that the recommendation should bo carried out in order that the board should know what its position was. The report would bo forwarded to the board as early as possible.— Mr M'Farlnne seconded the motion, which was carried. . ' It was decided to hold a special meeting on Tuesday to consider the question of the reduction of the standing charges.
