DUNEDIN FIRE BOARD
The mooting of the Dunedin Fire Board, held yesterday afternoon, was attended by Messrs T. Chalmer (chairman), 11. D. Stron" h, J. Buchan, W. A. Scott, H. 11. S. White, and J. Wilson. The Otago and Southland Fire Underwriters' Association wrote, forwardinp a copy of a letter addressed to the town clerk, Dunedin, drawing attention to the danger of fire arising through steam and hot water pipes being in contact with wood. —The Chairman said ho understood that the association desired the board to endorse _ to the City Council the views the association had expressed. The board had had undoubted proof of the origin of fires in homes from hot water jiipes. The little drying cupboards enclosing the pipe between the boiler and the circulator were a real source _ of danger. At hir> suggestion the following motion was adopted That the board endorses the request sent forward by the Ofcago and Southland Underwriters' Association to the Oity Council that the building regulations be amended in the direction of
providing that steam and hot water pipes be insulated or kept well clear of woodwork." The General Committee reported that accounts amounting to £194 5a 3d had boon passed for payment. The financial position as at November 8 showed a credit balance of £4268 18s 8d after payment of accounts.
