Several important articles on. themes from the war appear in the November number of the Windsor Magazine, and all of them are lavishly illustrated from interesting photographs. L. Morton .gives a lucid survey of the main features of Germany's railway grip on Asia Minor, and" its importance not only to Germany herself, but to the considerable interests of the Allies -which, are involved. E. H. D. Sewell contributes' an interesting account of the part taken in the war by the public schools, with their splendid reoord of fighting men who have responded to their country's call, from old boys who were already distinguished soldiers down to the flower of youthful chivalry which has shouldered; the burden of war. Another finely illustrated article deals with the war-time services of women, and the extent to which they have already been able to replace and release men for active service by undertaking their work at home. The socond article by W. G. Fitz-Gerald on " The Equipment of the Forces " deals with sundry important phases of this great work A special plate, finely printed in tint, which is given as a frontispiece, shows Sir John French and General Joffre in consultation at the front. The fiction of the number includes a long complete story on a powerful theme by the late Justus Miles Forman, which will have a pathetic interest for many readers as the last piece of work completed by that accomplished author before he perished in the sinking of the Lusitania. Among the other complete stories arc_ a very attractive comedy by Eden Phillpotts, a picturesque romantic episode by Marjorie Bowen, a vivid story of Australian life by Mary Grant Bruce, a powerful narrative of a search for lost treasure in a far country by W. Douglas Newton, a very clever sketch by A. A. Milne, and a curiously impressive study of temperament by G. B. Lancaster.
