PATRIOTIC AND RECRUITING COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the above committee was held in the Town Hall yesterday afternoon; present Stoneham (in the chair), tie Mayor (Mr J. J. Clark), Messrs J. Ruston, C. G. White, R. W. Glendining, H. Reeves, J. M'George, H. Si Tenwiek, R. S. Black, H. H. S. WTiite, and, E. S. Wilson, Mrs S. M. Park, Mrs Maofie. ' . ■ : The Otago Soldiers' and Dependents' Welfare Committee wrote in reply to an inquiry regarding assistance to parents of men' passed as fit for service, subject to iho6pital treatment, "stating that it had no funds for such, a purpose, and suggesting that application be made to the Patriotic Association.—The secretary was instructed to write to the Patriotic Association asking if a small sum of money could not bo placed in the hands of the Relief Committee to deal with such cases. The Defence Department forwarded a list of men who had signe'd on, but who had failed to come up for medical examination when requested.—Tho matter was referred to a subcommittee to deal with. The seoretary was instructed to write and thank the tramways manager and his staff for putting posters on cars and specially to thank Mr Meiklejohn. and his staff for their assistance.
It was reported that the send-off to the Tenth Reinforcements would take place on Thursday. The Chairman read a telegram from Mr M'Larcn offering to address a recruiting meeting here. —It was resolved to accept the offer with thanks
The secretary was instructed to ask all ■the country towns which had been requested to form a Recruiting Committee if they would forward reports each week for tho recruiting meetings.
