THE CONSCRIPTION QUESTION
TIMARU CHAMBER OF COMMERCE RESOLUTION. NOT IN ACCORD WITH DUNEDIN. IPbb Umtsd Pi.ebb Association.) TIMARU, November 15. The committee of the Chamber of Commerce to-day oonsidered a letter from the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, covering a resolution recommending the adoption of conscription forthwith. After discussion the committee unanimously resolved, on-the motion of tho Mayor (Mr Guinness); "In view of the fact that tho Government is gathering statistics under the National Registration Act, this Chamber considers that the resolution of the Dunedin Chamber :is drastic and premature, and prefers to wait until the information be gathered before expressing opinions or passing resolutions that might hamper the Government." Some members were of opinion that this was a political question outside tho business of Chambers of Commerce.
