BREACH OF LICENSING ACT

SALE OF WINCARNIS. (Pi;n United Press Association.) Oil AKUNK, November 10. A ease of much interest to chemists was derided Lo-day in tin; Magistrate's Court. A chemist named Cunningham was chargcd with selling liquor, to wit Wincarnis, iu a rio-license area. The Magistrate (Mr Hewitt) decided that section 273 of the Act was wide enough to cover such a sale by a chcmist, and that it negatived the exemption in scction 3. As it was a test case, he would imposu a fine of only £3, hut in future, ho would treat the sale of Wincarnis ns an ordinary breach of the Act, and inflict a higher penalty.
