MINING.
The master of the Electrio No. 1 dredge reports as follows for the past week:—"The dredge worked 153 hours for a distance ahead .of 27ft, and an average depth of 35ft. The bottom consists of pipeclay. There aro occasional small patches of tight maiden/ wash, and the prospects are moderate. The boulders are increasing in number and size, and portions of the ground aro difficult to dredge. The sample of gold is of a mixed nature." " The Rise and Shine No. 1 dredge made 6ft ahead last week, working a cut of 550 ft. There was an average ■ depth of 46ft, and a number of large stones had come into the wash, which gave good prospects. No. 2 dredge worked 15ft ahead, on a cut of 220 ft, with a depth ranging from 46ft to 48ft. There was a' olay bottom throughout the cut, and the. dredgemaster is hopeful of fair wash soon making on it. The Talisman return of £14,659 from 3000 toils of ore for October was won at an average coet of £2 8s 8d per ton. The following cablegram has been sent to London:— "Woodstock, No. 5 crosscut: Progress, 46ft. No. 1 rise started 72ft south of No. 2 cross- 1 cut; progress, 21ft; reef, 53in wide; value, £2 17s. , .] , ROSS GOLDFIELDS. (Per United Prbsb Association.) WELLINGTON, November 10. The Ross mine superintendent reports for .< the week "ended on November 4 as follows: i " No. 2 east drive has been advanced 28ft, the wash becoming payablo for a depth of i 2ft. The No. 14- south drive has been ad- < vanced 16ft, the last 10ft disclosing, a finer ] wash, which was of fair grade.
