COAL MINERS ENLISTING.
AN EMBARRASSING SITUATION.

The Press Bureau reports that Sir John Simon and Lord Derby state that the coal miners are joining the army in such large numbers that the supply of coal is seriously affected. The miners must remember that the success of the country depends ho less upon them than upon the troops. Miners enlisting must continue to work until they are called up. They will be given armlets indicating that they have enlisted. THE SUSPENDED NEWSPAPER. LONDON, November 9. No steps have yet been taken by the Government to prosecute the Globe. The paper has not published an edition, and the proprietary says it is calmly awaiting developments. LARGE AND SWIFT AEROPLANES. BRITAIN READY FOR GERMANY. LONDON, November 9. (Received Nov. 10, at 5.5 p.m.) Mr H. J. Tennant (Under-secrefcary for War), in reply to a question in the House of Commons, said that Hhe Government had taken steps to compete with Germany's activity in- constructing large and swift aeroplanes.
NO PREMATURE PEACE.
FRANCE STILL DETERMINED,
PARIS, November 10. (Received Nov. 10, at 0.35 p.m.)
M. Briand, speaking to representatives of American newspapers, said: '' It is common knowledge that Germany's resources aie declining. The peace rumours may be straws showing how the. wind blows. France, does not stand for a premature peace; the people would not accept it, and the army -would not hear of it, until Alsace and Lorraine are liberated and German militarism is smashed."
