The British Imperial Oil Company's steamer Nord, bound from Singapore to Hobart with a cargo of benzine, went on the TOcks near Cape Gillax. The vessel got free, but -was badly damaged and making water rapidly. She foundered nine hours later in 48 fathoms of water, her crew of 36 Chinese and seven Europeans escaping in the boats.
