Saturday. July 10. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) Drunkenness. —Two first offenders, who did not appear, -were each fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Paul Neilan. with three previous convictions, was fined 6s, or 24 hours' imprisonment, for drunkenness, and for casting offensive matter in Walker street he was fined 20.=, or three days' imprisonment. A Rogue and Vagabond.—George Henry Humphries pleaded guilty to a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond, having insufficient lawful means of support.—Chief Detective Bishop said that the accused v.-.is a hard-working man when lie was in the country, but it was seldom thnt he could bo got away into the country. When he came to town he consorted with reputed thieves and undesirables. He was- well known as a " bludger."—The accused said that he had been waiting for a cheque payment, of which had been stopped.— Chief Detective Bishop said this was the story he invariably told when he got into trouble.—The Magistrate said the court would put a check on the accused, who would be sentenced to fix months' imprisonment, -with hard labour..
