HEAVY FALL OF RADST. Tho weather experienced in Dunedin on Sunday. and Monday vas anything but pleasant to those whose duties took them out of doors. Rain eet in early on Sunday afternoon, and) continued almost without cessation until last evening, falling very heavily at frequent intervale yesterday. In consequence of the heavy rain all work at the Dunedin and Port Chalmers wharves came to a standstill yesterday. Plarly in the morning , tho waterside workers discussed the situation, and decided to go home for the remainder of the day. For a short period aljout noon the -weather showed signs of clearing, but at 1 p.m. rain fell as hard as ever, with the result that some of the vessels in port was able to work cargo. At Port Chalmers the steamers Kwinana and Trafalgar remained at their moorings in enforced idleness, and those at the Dunedin wharves included the Victoria, Flora, Kowhai, Storm, Invercargill, Physa, Westmeath, and the barque Cairnwuore, on all of which only the most necessary work was done. A good rain set in early on (Sunday morning, and still continues. Up till the time of writing have fallen in the town, and the country districts have received about the same quantity. The moisture obtained will do an immense amount of good by causing a fresh growth of grass and reviving the turnips, which were going off badly in some places. It means that the outlook in regard to stock and the dairying industry, which had become rather doleful, will be vastly improved, and an assurnnco gained of a supply of winter feed. Of course, all harvest work has been suspended, and it will be some time before thrashing can bo resumed. Grain in etook will receive a soaking, and some damage may be done to it unless good drying weather succeeds the rain. HILLGROVE, Febrnary 22.

The rainfall registered at Trotter's Creek, Hillgrove, for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. on the 21st was 43 points, and for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. to-day it was 98points. It hne practically saved the situation, though grain in stook will suffer to a certain extent.

WATKOT7AITT, February 22. The rainfall registered here for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. on Febuary 21 was 45 points, and on the 22nd 82 points. Rain set in with a fairly high glass, and' therefore there is every prospect of continuance.
