ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

(Pes United Press Association.) TIMARU, January 26. Ephraim Griffiths, aged b3 years, a retired farmer, of Hilton, and living at limaru, was killed by a motor car at Tenmka to-day. He, was leaving Teinuka for the railway "station, and in the station yard J. Wright, a farmer, came up behind in a car. lie sounded his horn, and the deceased seemed to hear it, and stepped to the left out of the way. Then he suddenly stepped right in front of the car, which was too near to avoid an accident Griffiths was struck by the off wheel, and the car passed over him. He was removed to a private hospital, but was dead when he arrived there. AUCKLAND, January 26. Fatal injuries were sustained by James Porter, a carpenter, in the employ of tho New Zealand Government Railways, who fell from a signal post yesterday afternoon at Henderson. Another carpenter, named Thos. Anderson, had a narrow escape from a similar fate. The police received information last evening that a three weeks' old child had died suddenly at a licensed nursing home in Rosebeiry street, Belleknowes. An inquest will be held at the Morgue, this forenoon. The local po'ice office has received •-. ord from Constable M'Kenzie, stationed at Ophir, that a man named Thomas Mino..rnc, a widower, 50 years of age, was accideiF.aily killed at the Manorburn dam \estei daymorning through being knocked down ly a runaway truck.
