PALMERSTON NOTES.

(Feom Oub Own Cobbkspondent.) PALMERSTON, January 13. The 6inglo and double bowling tournaments are in full swing, and the bowling green is occupied at all available opportunities by members playing off their matches. The green is in perfect playing order, although the season has not been a good one. Last week some excitement was caused by one of the horses in the Macraes. ooaca starting to luck just as the coach arrived at the Palmerston Poet Office. In its struggles the pole got broken, and the horse got one of its hind leg 6 iammed in the spokes of the front wheel. Willing''helpers were quickly on the scene, and the horse was reWsed from its precarious position, not much the worse excepting for a cut or two on the 11, nd leg. At the meeting on Tuesday Mr Wm. C. Arkle was appointed solicitor to the Pal- " merston Borough Council. After a few days' calm weather the wind began to rise on Sunday .evening, and by midnight had increased to a gale, which: kept up till daybreak. So far as ie known at present no damage was done. The newly-elected County Council, which also acts as the Waihemo Domain Board, is said- to have determined that the domain shall be put in order and made attractive for the public. This is a step in the right direction. Very little has been done in the way of buying and selling property durinsr the last few months. Evidently the war lias had ■ tho effect of stopping speculation in land. '
