KAITANGATA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) KAITANGATA, January 18. A most enjoyable social took place at the local Bowling Club's rooms on Saturday night. Thcro was a large attendance. The function was got up in order to show the club's appreciation of the success of its teams in winning the Singles and the Rinks at the recent bowling meeting held under the Otago Centre. The teams comprised Messrs Archibald Middlemaes and Robert Carson Singles), Messrs H. Carson, J. Gage, J. Pryde, and J. Ryle (Rinks). Songs were contributed by Messrs Duncan, M'Laren, Rarity, Coulter, and Park, after which refreshments were provided. Several toasts were honoured. The crops and turnips are looking well, and the rain that fell last night should have a most beneficial effect. At a representative meeting of the Miners' Union on Saturday night, it wag decided that the picnic be held at Owaka this year. Committees wore appointed to carry out the necessary arrangements. The annual election of officers for seats on the Miners' Union took place last week. The results were as follows: —Secretary, Mr C. Penman (106 votes, elected), Mr W. -M'Ghee (104 votes); president. Mr D. M'lnnes (139 votes, elected), Mr A. C. M'Lellan (68 votes); executive—Messrs W. Mundy (169 votes), J. Pryde (163), James Snell '(139), and Louis Lewis (120). These four were elected. The other nominations were: Messrs M. M'Lennan (109), R. Eaton (77). Mr William Brown was elected treasurer unopposed. The new police residence has been completed, and a separate tender has been accepted for the erection of an office and cells at the rear of the new quarters.
