The formation of the Oly(le-Crom-.veil railway line has now been mado from Clyde nearly on to the Halfway House. Last week a Daily Times reporter had a look over a part of the formation, and was rather surprised to see the great amount of work which had yet to be done. Tho lino appears to cross and recross the main road, and follows its course more or less closely. Just entering tho gorge part of the road lia6 been excavated and a big cutting made. Residents of Clyde maintain that tho line, when completed, will bo only a makeshift one, and that it •will be impossible to run a train over it at a greater speed than 15 miles an hour. In some parts the road is very narrow, and there hardly appears room for the lino, which has apparently been taken close to the side of the bank of the river. It is certainly to be hoped that the prognostications of disaster to the lino which are freely given utterance to by Clyde people, when the thunder plumps common to this district occur* will not be fulfilled. A start is now being made to get the sleepers ready for laying on the formation, on which, however, a considerable amount of levelling has yet to be done.
