CLYDE NOTES

(From Odb Own Corbespondent.) CLYDE, November 23. The -weather appears to have settled into clear, calm days alter a couple of mouths of boisterous winds, ajid the countryside, as a, consequence, is becoming- fresh and green. .Shearing is becoming general throughout the district, and good men are in demand. 'Jiie lanibing has been fairly good oil the whole, and stock generally are looking in good condition. The prospects are bright lor pastoralists. The Central railway is still being pushed ahead, and tents stud the roadway through the Clyde Gorge. At "Champagne Bill's" old lint the railway will pierce a bad bluff of rock, which is being brought down by explosives. Meantime one doubts the wisdom of making the line cross and re-cross the road so olton. As a large number of sleepers are stacked at the railway yard, some of the permanent way should be put; in hajid soon. The election seems to bo gaining in interest as the time approaches, and the licensing question is causing somo talk. It is hardly likely, however, that this end of the Wakatipu and Central Otago electorates will record a very heavy vote in favour of prohibition. Appearances, indeed, point in tile contrary direction. Fruitgrowers are giving closo attention to the crop at the present time, but it is apparent that the stone crop will bo light this year. I'ears and apples should, however, be fairly numerous.
