MATCHES IN AMERICA. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) NEW YORK, July 7. Trial matches for the defenders of the Davis Cup have begun. The press takes a, gloomy view of the prospects of the trophy being retained by America, and predicts a great difficulty in coping with the Australasian representatives.
M'Loughlin and Williams are regarded as certainties for America.
