The House of .Lords has rejected the Council of India Bill by 38 votes to 6.
The Bill was designed to reorganise the council at Whitehall, and make it a statu-tory-obligation for the appointment of two Indian members. The chief objection to the measure was grounded on the contention that it would change the council from an advisory board to an administrative body, and bestow autocratic power on the Secretary of State.
