PROPOSED NEW BISHOPRIC

TARANAKFS CLAIMS. BISHOP OF AUCKLAND FAVOURABLE, (Fkom Oub Own Correspondent.) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 8. In connection with the scheme for making Taranaki a separate bishopric, the Vestry of St. Mary's decided to 6end a memorial to the Bishop of Auckland, asking him whether the scheme had hk approval, and suggesting that on his forthcoming visit in August he should address meetings of church people in the various parishes of this archdiaconate with reference to the proposal. In reply, the vicar, the Rev. A. H. Colville, has received the following letter : —" lam in favour of the scheme, and much regret that it was not made the first and chief work of the church in connection with the Marsden centenary. I shall be glad to do wliat I can when I visit Taranaki. 1 quite realise that the growing requirements of Auckland itself need a great deal of the bishop's time, and that Taranaki needs and deserves more time from the bishop than he can possibly give."
