The Pall Mall Gazette's naval correspondent, discussing New Zealand's request for two cruisers of the Bristol class, says that they would be hardly less lutile than the ships already in New Zealand waters. Zealous though Australia ana New Zealand are in naval affairs, they hardly seem to grasp the first principles whereon the distribution of the fleet is grounded. It would be useless to pit Bristol cruisers against battleships and armoured cruisers. New Zealand having given the battle-cruiser New Zealand, her people have a right to be annoyed over the non-fulfilment of the Admiralty's promise that three, battle-cruisers should be maintained on the station, but to despatch Bristol cruisers would not fill the hiatus.
