MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union va» hrtd yesterday afternoon in the No-lioenee Roonm,; Moray place. A report was received fromMr Robertson, seamen's missionary,, that work at the Sailors' Rest progressed strodily. Of late a number of wharf labourers had taken advantage of the conjfort affordod at the Rest, and some dtetitute men had been supplied with food. Thfc. following reeolution was carried:— "Tnat. the Dunedin City W.C.T.U., realising the widespread evil of the gamoling habit-in. this dominion, views with treat apprehension the nropoeed introduction in Parn&v , mont of the Gaming Aot of 191Q Amendment Bill, and emphatically protests againet the proposal to increase tho .number of raoft days on which the totalieator permits may' he granted, as tending to increase the facOrties for gambling, and being therefore ; inimical to the rx>st interests of thV oountry." Mrs W. R. Don addressed tfeeVmeeting on the recent congress held in Wellington, and urged tho women to work aad pray, and God would give then) victory.A vote of sympathy was passed to t%' family of the late Mrs Boot, who w«e ooe> of the o'dcst and roost respected of tho union.
