LAWRENCE-ROXBURGH RAILWAY LEAGUE.
A general meeting of members of' the Lawrence-Roxburgh Railway League w«s hold at the secretary's office yesterday; present—Mr C. T. Paterson (in the chair), Messre G. M. Thomson, T" K. Sidey, and C. B. Stafcham, M.P.'s, W. Gow, A. Moritzson, W. T. Talboys, and M. Cohen. The Mayor of Roxburgh (Mr Waigth) forwarded a telegram, dafcd April 30, and worded as follows" Prime Minister promised authorisation Roxburgh railway next session, aleo favourably' consider mam road."—Received, the Chairman remarking that the telegrams were satisfactory.—The Secretary (Mr Tamblyn) eaid that last month the number of men employed on the line was 78, an increase on 45 in February, and 58 in March. The Secretary also reported receipt of £14 13s subscriptions to date. —Noted. _ The Secretary, Dunedin Expansion' League (Mr Wright), wrote inviting the league to send three delegates to attend preliminary meeting on Wednesday at t.he Chamber of Commerce, such delegates to bring forward any proposals deemed to be desirable to lay before M.P.'s for' Otago.— The following were appointed delegates:— Messrs Talboys, Paterson, and) the secretary. Mr Cohen he thought that the delegate® should urge that the lino be carried on without delay and a vote be obtained to do the work. He pointed out the disadvantages fruit-growers at Roxburgh laboured under in sending their produce to market under existing transit conditions. Mr Moritzson supported tho recommendation, coupled with the necessity of pointing out that t.he Lawrence-Rortburgh line (had a'prior claim over others in Otago. The Chairman supported the proposals, and said that speedy completion should be .'urged' to Beaumont, so that by next season the fruit-growers would be benefited l by it. If tho Roxburgh growers had the necessary railway facilities their fruit would come to market in a vastly better condition than was possible at present.
