AN, OUTBURST OF LOYALTY. PROTEST BY AN ■ EX-MINISTER. Prees Association—By Telegraph—-Copyright. OTTAWA, May 9. (Received May 10, at 5.5 p.m.) Mr H. R. Emmerson, K.C., ex-Minister of Railways in the Laurier Cabinet, surprised the House when the announcement was formally made that Prince Alexander of Teck would follow the Duke of Connaught as Governor : general of Canada. Mr Emmerson protested against the practice of having Canada governed by Royalty. The idea of superior society in a democratic country was not good for a young country like Canada. The Duke of Connaught was a splendid man in every '■ respect, but Canadians did not want German princes to rule over them. The sooner this was discontinued the better. The press generally welcomes the appointment of Prince Alexander of Teck. Banners are flying, hands playing, and thousands singing the National Anthem , .
