—The Sergeant-at-Arms in the House of Lords is paid £1000 a year; his deputy s salary is £250. The Speaker of the House of Commons receives £5000 a year, and •has a chief clerk who ie paid £2000 a year. There is aleo an assistant clerk with £1500 a year, and several principal clerks with £.1000 a year each.
