AUCKLAND, April 5. • After a trial lasting five days a young married man named Hugh Scally-was acquitted at the Supreme Court on a charge of having attempted to commit rape. The accused was discharged.' The jury passed a resolution thanking Mr Justice Hosking for his courteous treatment of the jury and expressed appreciation of the manner in which he had summarised the evidence. WELLINGTON, April 4. At the Supreme Court to-day, Charles L. L. Hankins, a youth, charged with forgery and littering, was admitted to probation for three years. Peter Hembery received six years for an unnatural offence.
