OTAGO ANNUAL REGATTA

Tho Otago # regatta is always looked upon as an important fixture for Boxing Day, and the regatta this year promises to be tho meet successful yet held in tho Otago Harbour. Excellent entries have been received for all events, and in some races there will be 11 competitors, so that some exciting finishes can be looked for. The First-class Yacht Raco should provide a fino spectacle and an interesting race, as there aro eight yachts competing. The entries for the motor boat races aro also very good. In the Bang-and-go-back, 11 boats have entered. This race is expected to provide something sensational in the way of finishes. Tho programme also includes several swimming races and a high hiving, competition, so tho public can be assured of having plenty to interest them. Tho committee is making every arrangement possible for tho convenience of the public, and the Union Steam Ship Company has k:ndly offered to placo one of its fine steamers at the committee's disposal as a flagship. What should prove a very, great attraction will be the launching of the Harbour Board's new tug, which is one of the finest boats of its kind in the dominion. The launching of a vessel is a rare thing in the Otago Plarbour, and no doubt the public will avail themselves of this opportunity .of witnessing tho ceremony. The Railway Department is making special arrangements for conveying the public to and from Port Chalmers, and visitors can look forward to a pleasant day' 6 outing
