The inspector's report, dealing., with a number ot rrunor works in progress in tho county, was received. Accounts amounting to £226 8s od were passed for payment. CORRESPONDENCE. The secretary of the Treasury wrote- advising that the sum of £48 18s as a. Dual grant for the formation and oulverting of the Mount Watldns road, and also £12 8s 2d, goldfields revenue, had been remitted' to the credit of tho councd.—Received.

Mr Leo, M.P., wrote advising that the clause to which the council objected had been 6truck out of tho R-ailway Bill.—Received.

Catherine Black wrote directing the attention of tto council to the disgraceful condition of the Bay road at Warrington, and asking that something be done to put this road in a proper state of repair.—Tho Inspector was instructed to have this road put in order. Mr A. S. Adams wrote requesting the 'council to have the road opposite his house at Warrington put in order, as it was impossible for him to get along with his ear in fine weather, and after rain it was quite impracticable.—lt was decided that the inspector have the road surfaced.

The District Engineer of the New Zealand Railway Department wrote advising that on the Waitati-Evansdalc road there was a stone culvert which, owing to defects, was causing the bank between tho road and tho railway to break away. ' Ho asked that this culvert be attended to as early as possible.—Referred to tho inspector with power to repair the culvert.

Dr Batchelor wrote agreeing to pay half the cost of blinding tho metal on M'Goun's road, Waitati, as 60on as the work was iu hand.—Received.

Mr W. J. Moody forwarded a communication complaining that he had sent 10s to the council as part payment for the cost of blinding the metal on the road leading, to Purakanui, but that the work had not been done. Ho asked that in the event of the blinding not being done before Christmas Day his contribution be refunded.— The Inspector stated that the workmen were employed on the road, but had not reached the portion in question, but when they did the work would be done.—The letter was received and the inspector was instructed to have tlio blinding done at ouce.

Tho Receiver of Land Revenue notified that the sum of £6 14s 7d, the amount of thirds accrued from July 28 to October 28, had been paid into the council's account at the bank. —Received.

Mr H. F. Moss wrote directing attention to an objectionablo nuisance in the form of a culvert at the Evarasdale picnic paddock, which emitted a most disgusting smell and which, if not attended to at once, would prove a riicnace to public health. — It was decided that the letter bo received and that the inspector report on the matter to the next meeting of the council, GENERAI. It was resolved that Mr Lgo, M.P., bo informed that the council had applied for grants in the usual way, and was disappointed to note that not one single penny had been voted for tho oounty. in spite of tho urgency of tho council's needs; also, that the council had applied to have a grant of £300 cancelled, and then transferred to a more useful and necessary place; and had found that this amount had not been rcvoted, and that it appeared that they wero not going to get anything in lieu of the grant. This was very unfair, as well as unsatisfactory to the council. It was decided that a pipe culvert be put through the road opposite Mr B. Price's property at Karitane if Mr Price would pay the council the sum of £1 as his share of the cost of the work. It was resolved that Mr Hood be informed that if ho did not go on with his contract No. 124 within 14 days and complete the work to the satisfaction of the inspector witliin 10 days from the time of starting, Ihis deposit would be forfeited.
