Shrubb's time was 51min 4ecc. Nominations for the events in connection with the Gore Trotting Club's meeting on Boxing Day will close on Saturday. Nominations for the Southland Racing Olub's summer meeting close to-morrow at 9 p.m. The Dunedin Jockey Club has appointed Mr R. 11. Aldworth, of Silverhope, Ra-ngi-tikei, as judge at its 'summer meeting. If ho gives satisfaction at this meeting his appointment will probably be permanent. The three-year-old Salzburg was responsible for somo little excitement early on Saturday morning (says tho Christchureh Press). ' When doing a gallop on the plough track, tho saddle slipped, and the colt very quiqkly got rid of his rider. After galloping a short distance, tho saddle was hanging about Salzburg's flanks, and this naturally frightened him aJid made him go all the faster. On coming to the crossing, where several trainers were standing, he charged into the veteran E. Cutts, jumped the two fences on tho course proper, went a round of the walking ring at, a good gallop, and afterwards cantered homo, to Murray Hobbs's stables, without sustaining any injury. E. Cutts, who was unfortunate enough to get in the way of the colt during his. mad career, received what appeared to be a nasty fall, but beyond a slight injury to his leg and a bad shaking, ho sustained no injury, and was on tho course again on Monday morning. Salzburg appears to have suffered littlo as a result of his e6cupadc, nnd his connections i must consider themselves lucky that tho colt showed such good jumping ability when he essayed the task of clearing tho ! two fonces.
