WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.

ANNUAL MEETING,

The twenty-sevenvh ar-nual meeting of the local branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union- was held on Tuesday afternoon in the Congregational Church Hall, Moray place. Mrs Peter Dick was in the chair, and, after devotional exercises, welcomed the visitors from tho auxiliaries and gave a brief outline of tho year's work. The auxiliaries lit Port Chalmers, South Dunedin, North-East Valley, Kaikorai, and Mosgiel were represented on the platform by Mesdames Johnston, South, Hislop, Hamilton, and M'Donald respectively. Mrs MTCechnie, of the Napier Union, was present, and also a good number of the " 5f " branch. The president announced that two members of the "Y" branch were; coming forward to take office in the mother union.

The annual report (already published), prcpard by the secretary, Miss.Nicol, was read by Mrs Edmonds.

The fourth annual report of the "Y" branch was read by Miss Gibb. Assistance had been given by memhers to Band of Hope, Y.W.C.A., and Salvation Army work, as well as to the mother union whenever called upon.

Mrs Gain, superintendent of Bands of Hope, reported a siiccessfal year. Ten bands were now affiliated with the Bands of Hape Union. Children were being trained not only to be total abstainers themselves, but to be helpers in the fight against the great evil of intemperance and the tins that followed in its train.

The press report stated that all the union's meetings had teen reported in both the loca] papers and the White Ribbon. Hearty thanks were accorded to the press. r ihe following officers were elected:—President, Mrs H. H. Driver; vice-presidents— Mcsdames Don, Dick, Kirkland, Porteous, Chisholm, and Adams; recording secretary, Miss Mnzengarb; corresponding secretary, Miss Nicol; treasurer. Miss Winnie Reed; press correspondent, Miss L. Neil; superintendents of departments—Sailors' Rest, .Mr 6 Pearson; Bands of Hope, Mre Gain;'writing pads and White Ribbon, Mrs Anderson; Maori work and backbloob. Mrs Romeril; uafermented wine and cradle roll. Mrs Edmonds; evangelistic, Mrs Kirkland; antigambling, Mrs A. S. Adams; drawing-room meeting,'_ Mesdames Chisholm and Sundstrum; sick visitor, Mrs Kersley. Mrs Driver was appointed as delegate to the convention to be held in Gisborne in 1914.

The balance sheet of tho union showed receipts as £50 Or, 6d, and expenditure as £40 12s 9d.

A duet by Mrs Hnlgato and Miss Sparrow was very much _en joyed. Miss White ably fulfilled her duties of accompanist.
