Alleged Assault.—Peter Thomas Stewart was charged on remand with that on November 29 ho did unlawfully assault John Morrison—Mr Hanion. appeared for the ac-cused.—Sub-inspector Fouhy, who prosecuted, said that on tho evening in question the complainant was playing his bagpipes close to the Grand Hotel, when the accused went up to him and struck hira on tho mouth, cutting his lip, and breaking the mouthpiece ot the pipes.—William George Waldren gave evidence as to seeing tho accused strike the complainant a severe blow. He would probably not be able to give any more evidenco than the witness Pratt had given. Ho appeared to have stated pretty well what had happened.—Mr Hanion: Yes, we accept Pratt'6 statement.—The Magistrate intimated to Mr Hanion that there was no ca6c for him to answer, and that tho charge would be dismissed. Piy-law Case —Edgar Sydney Clark was charged with permitting cattle to wander on the Main Leith Valley roar! on November 10.—Ho pleaded not guilty, and was defended by Mr A. S. Ad.ams.—Evidence for the prosecution was given by Laurence Fraser and William Palmer to tho effect that the cattle wore permitted to graze on a reserve instead of being driven to their paddock.—Tho defendant denied this evidence, stating that there was no grass on this place for them to eat.
