GREEN ISLAND BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Green Island Borough Council was held on Monday night; present-The Mavor (Mr T, Gcddes), Ore Kain, Will, J. Gcddcr,, Wilson, Jackson, Reeve, Samson, Atkinson, Christie, Smellie, and Miller. A motion by the Mayor that the resolution fixing the speed limit of motor cars at 15 miles an hour be rescinded and that the speed be fixed at 10 miles was lost. Mr Martin, solicitor to tbo Municipal Corporations Association gave his opinion that the council could not take over/ streets 33ft in width, or spend money en t)fem legally. The Finance Committee recommended She payment of accounts amounting to £113 7s lid. The committee recommended that a request for a subsidy for the band bo held over till the end of the financial year, as the funds of the council did not warrant any such expenditure in the meantime. It further recommended that the dog tax be 10s for the ensuing year.—Adopted.

The Cemetery and Domain Committee reported that the extension to the cemetery was practically completed, and the work had been carried out in a satisfactory manner. The cost amounted to £63—Adopted.

The Water Committee recommended that water be supplied by meter. —Adopted. Tho Drainage Committee recommended that the main be carried from the boundary at the acid works to tho terrace below Murray, Roberto's fellmongery. if the works in the district paid a contribution of, say:— Acid works. £120; .Chratehurch Meat Company, £120; fat works, £120; Baylcy's works, £20; Butterworth's, £10; total—£4oo. _ This amount wonld meet the interest and sinking fund on £7000 required for the work.
