GRAIN AND PRODUCE REPORT.

Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report sales during the week as follows:— Wheat.—The tone of tho market continues vary firm, but offerings are light. Good quality Tuscan is in keen, demand, and other varieties have ready buyers at quo-, tations. Thero is an excellent local inquiry for fowl wheat, which is scarce. Prime milling velvet", 4s 2£d; red chaff and velvet-oar, 5s 9d to 3s 10d, Tuscan, 3s 8d to 3s ; bty' whole fowl wheat, 3b 5d to 3s 6jd; medium and good, 3a to 3s 4d per bushel (sacks extra)

Oats.—Thero is no improvement in the demand for shipment, but holders axe finn and'prices elwiv no change compared with a week ago. Tho millers' demand is very poor, the only business being transacted is with seed lines. Prime milting Gartons, 2s 2d to & 2|d; good to befit, feed, 2e to 2s 2d; inferior to medium, la 9d to Is lid per bushel (sacks extra). Chaff.—Consignments ham' been heavy lately, and, owing to the feeders being fully stocked, prices iave an easier tendency. Primo quaJity only is saleable, medium being difficult to quit. Choice black sheaf, £4- 5s to £4 7b 6d; prime 'white oaten, £4 to £4 2 6d; medium to good, £3 10s to £4; inferior, from £'3 per ton, (bags extra)

Potatoes.—The market has been improving slightly as consignments have ceased in the meantime. Prime quality ia now difficult to obtain, and is readily sold at £2 10s to £2 15s per ton on arrival. Medium is slow of salo from £1 10b per ton (sacks included).

HIDE SALES. The Dunedin Woolbrokers' Association (Messrs Dalgety and Co., A. Moritzson and Co., National Mortgage and Agency Company, New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Otago Farmers' Cooperative Association, Donald Reid and Co., Stronach, Morris, and Co., and Yfright, Stephenson, and Co.) report as follows:— The fortnightly hido sate:, were held on Thursday, the usual number of buyers being present. Tho shortage in the number offering still continues, and prices on that account were very high. All o:c hides showed a further rise of from id to i-d per lb; and cow hides were very lirm at late rates. At the beginning of the sale calfskins were not in demand, but an extra buyer came in, and prices roso Id to lid per lb. Messrs Waters, Ritchie, and Co. report as follows:—Wo held our usual fortnightly sale of hides at our stores, Crawford street, yesterday morning. Then; was the usual attendance of buyers, and competition was again very keen, an. advance of id to jd per lb being o,btainod for all lines of good ox, jvhich are in gres.t demand. Sup plies are short, and local tanners are taking all on offer at extreme prices. Cows are also in good demand, and ruled from par to id per lb advancc on last side's quotations. In ox hides our top price was lOJrl, and cow Bjjd per ib. In money value the former brought up to £3 9s 2d and the latter to £2 Is 8d each. NEW ZEALAND SUGAR OF MILK AND CASEIN COMPANY. Tho statutory meeting of the New Zealand Sugar of Milk and Casein Company was hold in the Chamber of Commerco board room on Tuesday afternoon. A fair

number of members wero present, and matters in connection with the formation of tho company were dismissed. Tho provisional directors reported tiiat the machinery had been ordered in England, and that an early delivery was proraised. Tenders would be called for ..the crcction of tho refinery at Edendale during tho coming week, and it was anticipated that the company would commence operating in January.

The Chairman stated that the company's pro6pect6 for tho coming season were excellent, as the tendency of the Continental market was short supplies, and the withdrawal of the duty on sugar of milk into tho United States had opened lip a new and large market. The following- additional directors were elected Messrs A. E. Usherwood, J, L. Herbert, and W. H. Evans. Messrs Barr, Leary, and Co. were elected auditors.
