NAVY LEAGUE.
OTAGO BRANCH. Tho executive of tho Otago Branch of tho Navy League met in the Education Board Office , yesterday afternoon, when there wera present: Messrs J. A. Johnstone (in the chair), J. Waddell Smith, J. F. Woodkouse, G. C. Graham, G. R. Ritchie, ' F. Waite, and ~W. Eiownic Stewart. The Finance Coramitteo recommended the following sasounts for ■payment:—Army and Navy (Jo-oporativo Society (priie books), £50 13s 4d; Christchurcli branch, £1 4s 6d; Navv Leaguo Quarterlies and poskards, £2 % od; W. Simpson (30 lectures, 25 elides, 6000 circulars), £36 ss. Sinco last report lantern lectures have been delivered at, or on behalf of, Albany Street, Ravensbouine, Musselburgh, Normal, Mornington, North-East Valley, 'Macundrew Road, High Street, Arthur Street, Green Island, and Kaikorai Schools. A record number (76) primary and secondary Etthoote havo entered for tho league's essays' examination this year, and tho papers of over 60 echools aro already in the hands of the examiner, the Rev. J. Chisholm. Two thousand six hundred and fifty quarterly magazines have been circulated among the school members. Grateful and appreciative tihanka (have been received from the principals and head masters and committees for the leagWs gift to each of 42 echools of five illustrated volumes of naval history. Arrangements for Trafalgar Day were considered. Major J. E._ Watson, of Invercargill, will dfilivor & brief address, and the Rev. W. Slado will speak on ''The Price of Empiro." , His Worship tlhe Mayor will preside, and tho 4th Regimental Band will play. Mr William Thomson and the Lyrio Male Quartet will eing, and new and special slides illustrating the Battle of Trafalgar and Captain Scott's journey £rom the South Pole will be shown. The question of a Branches Conference at Wellington was discussed. It was also stated that arrangements would most probably bo made for (holding a schools' shooting and physical exercises competition. It was unanimously decided to ipresent ,a framed and mounted oopy of the Medici print of Abbot's Nelson to the Citv Council, the Otago University (Students Hall), the Free Library, the Otago Boys' and the Otago Girls' High Schools.
