OPENING A NEW SEAM. ;'.£ (Peb United Pbess Association.) •,; WESTPORT, September 2.=' The Ngakawau correspondent of di 9: Weetport News advises that work jn connection with the development of a new seam of coal situated in the new eastern field of fchfl Stockton mine was commenced on Monday, when the company drove onthe scam for a distance of 6ft, producing some 14 or 15 tons of clean, bard bituminous coal. The seam is 12 to 18 feet inheight, and is in direct connection with the main haulage ropes. It is anticipated, by the company that this seam will swell the present output to over 800 tons per day.
The coal is equal, if not superior, to any- -/t thing previously produced in the district.
