CONDUCT OF THE POLICE.
A DIFFICULT TASK. (Times-Sydney Snn Special Cables.) LONDON, September 1. (Received Septj, 2, at 7.15 p.m.) The conduct of the police in Dublin is warmly supported by the Unionist newspapers and the National Independent, - but Freeman's Journal demands an inquiry. In the opinion of the citizens in Dublin the police acted throughout with discretion, courage, and splendid devotion to duty. The streets were packed with peaceable but curious citizens when the police charged the rioters, who took refuge amongst the innocents. I.t wa6 impossible in the circumstances for the police to avoid hitting the wrong man.
