MINING SCHOOLS.
» CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, September 2. A general conference of delegates representing the different mining scnools in the dominion met in conference in Roth's Buildings, Wellington, to-day, and will continue their deliberations to-morrow. The delegates and the mining schools they represent are as follows: —Mr H. Poland,. M.P., and Mr Gibson (Kaiangahake), Mr Baker (Thames), Mr T. W. Rhodes, M.P., (Coromandel), Mr Lovell (Westport), Mr Fletcher (Huntlyj, Mr Morgan (Waihi), Professor Park (Otago University), and Mr M'Padden (Beefton). Others who attended the conference were Mr 11. J. .H. Blow (Under-Secretary, of Public Works), and the following members of the Official Board of Examiners :— Messrs P. G. Morgan, Director of Geological Surveys (chairman), H. E. R«dcliffe (secretary), F. Reed, and R Duncan (Chief Inspector of Machinery). The conference was opened this morning by the Hon. W. Eraser (Minister of Mines), who expressed the hope that it would result in making the mining schools even, more useful than in the past. Various points connected with the work of the mining schools will be discussed by the conference, and it will consider also the question of examinations for mining certificates and various cognate matters.
